SONY DEBUTS ITS FIRST 26-INCH LCD WEGA TV AND EXPANDS FLAT SCREEN LINEUP

Indianapolis (CEDIA Booth #112), Sept. 4, 2003 - Expanding its flat screen television lineup, Sony Electronics today introduced two additional LCD WEGA ® models. The KLV-26HG2 model marks the company's first 26-inch widescreen flat screen TV, while the new 21-inch KLV-21SG2 in the 4:3 aspect ratio delivers outstanding picture performance using proprietary technologies.

The two new models feature Memory Stick ® media slot for JPEG still image and MPEG1 video playback, side A/V input for easy hook up to a PlayStation ® videogame console or Handycam ® camcorder and sport a new, contemporary side speaker design. Additionally, the KLV-26HG2 is HDTV ready, while the KLV-21SG2 can accept and display a 1080i and 720p signal through its component video input.

"The introduction of these LCD WEGA models demonstrates the increasing demand for flat panel television and our aim to provide the widest choice of screen sizes and display technology," said John Revie, director of marketing for Sony Electronics' Home Products Division. "These new TVs join a growing family of LCD WEGA models that are ideal for space-conscious entertainment lovers seeking high-quality TV performance, without sacrificing style."

Setting Standards with Proprietary Technology

Sony is including proprietary picture technologies in this G2 series, including:

  • Direct Digital II circuitry, which optimizes incoming video signal to minimize video artifacts for cleaner signal processing;

  • Digital Reality Creation ® MultiFunction circuitry, which bit maps any NTSC source (DVD, VHS, DBS, Cable, etc.) to create a picture that rivals high definition resolution; and

  • Sony's proprietary LCD Panel Driver to improve fast-action, motion picture quality while minimizing image blur.

Another digital processing technology incorporated is CineMotion ® reverse 3:2 pulldown circuitry that optimizes playback of film based content. The new sets boast a wide viewing angle of 170 degrees further ensuring a brilliant image display, even at wide viewing angles.

The widescreen KLV-26HG2 model displays vivid colors across the screen with 1280 x 768 pixel resolution and a WXGA LCD panel for remarkable clarity. With 170-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angles and audio features such as WOW ™ SRS ® Audio effect, the KLV-26HG2 delivers accurate images and superior audio reproduction at both the low and mid-level frequency.

The KLV-21SG2 model is equipped with an XGA panel, offering 1024 x 768 resolution to provide exceptional images on the unit's 4:3 aspect ratio screen.

Building an Extended LCD WEGA Family

The two new models join an LCD WEGA flat-panel TV family that includes five previously announced models (KLV-15SR1, KLV-23HR1, KLV-21SR2, KLV-23HR2 and the KLV-30XBR900) ranging in screen size from 15 to 30 inches.

The KLV-26HG2 and 21-inch KLV-21SG2 LCD televisions will be available this winter for about $3,300 and $1,700, respectively.
