FUSING DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE AND REVOLUTIONARY DESIGN, SONY INTRODUCES TRIO OF FLAT-PANEL LCD WEGA TELEVISIONS

PARK RIDGE, N.J., Feb. 24, 2003 - Entering the rapidly growing flat panel television market, Sony Electronics today introduced its 2003 line-up of LCD WEGA ® televisions equipped with advanced picture and processing technologies.

The new 23-inch KLV-23HR1 and 15-inch KLV-15SR1 LCD WEGA televisions feature high-resolution LCD panels and technologies that deliver exceptionally vivid pictures. These compact, elegant units to bring Sony's legendary picture performance into a kitchen, bedroom or virtually any room to enhance their home entertainment experience. They join the recently announced KLV-30XBR900, Sony's 30-inch, top of the line LCD WEGA model.

"Combining the best of our innovative LCD and WEGA technologies with state-of-the-art design, our new LCD WEGA line-up demonstrates that not all LCD TVs are created equal," said Tim Baxter, senior vice president of marketing for Sony Electronics' Visual Network Products Division. "In the past two years, Sony has hit the ground running in the flat-panel television category. Our new LCD WEGA models continue the charge by providing discerning consumers with sophisticated performance technologies in versatile screen sizes,"

Crystal Clear Picture Quality

The widescreen KLV-23HR1 model features 1280 x 768 pixel resolution, and the unit's wide XGA LCD panel generates brilliant images from corner to corner and side to side with 170-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angles.

The KLV-23HR1 also incorporates advanced picture technologies to enhance the home theater experience. Sony's Digital Reality Creation ™ MultiFunction circuitry achieves four times the picture density by doubling both the horizontal and vertical resolution. Coupled with CineMotion ™ reverse 3:2 pulldown circuitry for optimum film-based video source display, the unit displays sharp, crisp images and brilliant colors.

It also delivers excellent audio reproduction with such features as WOW ™ SRS Audio effect, which helps improve both the low and mid-level frequency responses.

Housed in an ultra-slim design featuring curved, silver speakers on the bottom of the screen, the KLV-23HR1 also incorporates a Clean Wire Management System, which allows hidden integration into any home video setting by clever organization of connection wires to other home electronics devices. In addition, the unit connects to a variety of audio and video components through six different inputs, including S-Video and component video input.

Three Of A Kind

The new KLV-15SR1 model is equipped with an XGA panel offering 1024 x 768 resolution to provide exceptional images on the unit's 4:3 aspect ratio screen. The unit includes CineMotion Reverse 3-2 Pulldown Technology and full digital processing technology to enhance playback of DVDs and other video sources.

The KLV-23HR1 and KLV-15SR1 will be available in May for about $2,700 and $900, respectively.

The recently introduced KLV-30XBR900 completes Sony's 2003 LCD WEGA TV line-up. The 30-inch widescreen model includes a revolutionary floating panel display connected via a proprietary A/V cable to the supplied Media Receiver Unit (MRU), a convenient set-top box component that easily connects to any video and audio source.

Equipped with Sony's WEGA Engine ™ system, a fully digital processing engine incorporating advanced, unique technologies such as Direct Digital circuitry, Digital Reality Creation ™ MultiFunction circuitry and a Multi Image Driver, the KLV-30XBR900 delivers superb picture performance.

The unit's MRU also incorporates a Memory Stick ® media slot and a Digital Visual Interface (DVI-HDTV) connection that enables copy-protected, high-definition video content to be delivered to the unit from a DVI/HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) compatible set-top box, such as Sony's SAT-HD200 HD/DIRECTV receiver. The KLV-30XBR900 will be available this month for about $5,500.
