SONY REMODELS THE KITCHEN WITH NEW UNDER-THE-CABINET ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS
Style and Entertainment Take Center Stage as Kitchens Become `Family Rooms'
PARK RIDGE, N.J., Feb. 25, 2003 -Sony is cooking up some delicious entertainment options for the busiest room in the house with two new under-the-cabinet CD clock radios. The super-slim radios offer advanced functions and convenience in a stainless steel design that complements the granite countertops and sub-zero refrigerators of today's modern kitchen.
The radios mount discreetly under a cabinet or counter. Both units feature an AM/FM digital tuner, a cooking timer, and an easy-to-use front-loading CD with CD-R/RW playback capability. One model, the ICF-CD555TV, even sports a flip-down LCD television screen, which is ideal for watching a favorite cooking show while trying out the recipes at the same time.
Both of Sony's new under-the-cabinet models come with a handy Remote Commander ® remote control for easy channel changing. The remote is also magnetic so it can hang nearby, preventing busy chefs or distracted diners from losing it.
"Kitchen remodeling is among the most popular home improvement projects and our latest product designs were planned to reflect the kitchen's new role as the `family room'," said Koba Kobayashi, general manager for Sony Electronics' portable audio products. "These new under-the-cabinet units offer an elegant entertainment system for the room that has become the household epicenter where friends and family gather in one place."
In addition to a four-band digital AM/FM/TV/Weather tuner, the new ICF-CD553 kitchen CD clock radio has a convenient voice-memo function that turns it into a communications center. Whether using it to record a shopping list or to leave a message before going out, the unit's voice-memo feature eliminates the scribbled notes and refrigerator-as-bulletin-board look that clutter a kitchen. This model will be available in next month for about $129.
The ICF-CD555TV kitchen CD radio incorporates the same features as the ICF-CD553 with the added benefit of a 7-inch wide-screen, flip-down color liquid crystal display (LCD). This model also has a TV/cable tuner with auto channel search capability and A/V inputs on the back so you can connect a DVD player or VCR to it. This new model will also be available in April for about $400.
