LAS VEGAS (CES Booth # 14200), Jan. 6, 2008 – Created to please the most devoted audiophile, Sony today unveiled its latest HD Radio™ products. They include the XDR-F1HD Tuner and the XDR-S10HDiP HD Radio model with iPod® compatibility.
Consumers who want access to new content and crystal-clear digital sound can choose a tabletop radio that also docks their digital music player, or they can select a revolutionary receiver that connects to nearly any home sound system and transforms it into an HD Radio-capable device.
There are now more than 1,500 HD Radio stations nationwide. The technology enables FM stations to offer additional channels and improved sound quality. With HD Radio, FM stations sound like digital CDs and AM stations sound like FM.
HD Radio Revolution
The XDR-F1HD tuner transforms an existing audio system with an auxiliary input into an HD Radio receiver. The high fidelity HD Radio technology provides clear digital radio reception and FM multicasting, without monthly subscription fees.
With a full dot matrix LCD display, the tuner displays music information, including artist names and song titles plus radio station names and genres, where available. The unit also includes a wireless remote for full access to all features. The tuner will be available in March for about $100.
The Radio That Has It All
Combining high fidelity HD Radio technology and an iPod docking station, Sony’s XDR-S10HDiP HD Radio with iPod compatibility is the first tabletop radio of its kind from Sony. Perhaps the most exciting feature is its iTunes® Tagging capability, enabling the user to save song information with the touch of a button while listening to an HD Radio station. The iPod can later be hooked up to the user’s computer where the information will be downloaded, and purchase choices can then be made using iTunes®.
Designed to work with most iPod models, the unit’s sleek design includes a wireless remote with full access to the iPod player menu, as well as to radio tuning and volume functions. The unit also charges the iPod while it is docked and provides clock radio functionality. The XDR-S10HDiP model will be available this summer for about $180.
