DREAMING OF THE ULTIMATE IN-CAR DVD EXPERIENCE? SONY DID, WITH NEW PORTABLE AND ALL-IN-ONE MOBILE DVD DREAM SYSTEMS

LAS VEGAS (CES, Booth #N110), Jan. 7, 2004 - Sony has taken its ground-breaking approach to the DVD Dream ® System entertainment experience for the home, added features to please fidgety five-year-olds and traveling film buffs in the car, and packaged it to-go with two new additions to the Mobile DVD Dream system family.

"We didn't compromise the home theater experience just because it's outside the home," said Bill Lee, general manager for mobile electronics at Sony Electronics. "We preserved the critical features such as widescreen format, ease of use and a Remote Commander ® control to make sure that even the latest DVD releases receive the quality entertainment treatment people expect from Sony."

Shipping in April for about $500, the MV65ST portable DVD Dream system model offers everything needed to enjoy DVD movies in the car, in the home and on the go. The model has a 6.5-inch 16:9 liquid crystal display (LCD) that swivels and pivots to facilitate a variety of viewing positions, depending on the needs of the family and their car. It can be safely mounted in virtually any convenient location such as on the center console, or with its supplied straps suspended between the front seats.

The portable DVD Dream system also presents users with three different options for listening to movies. For example, families can utilize the built-in FM wireless transmitter which sends the sound from the movie through nearly any FM car radio, they can listen to the built-in stereo speakers, or for a private audio experience, users can plug optional headphones into the two headphone jacks.

With its own carrying bag, home AC power adapter, and car cigarette lighter adapter, the MV65ST portable DVD Dream system is easily moved between the car and home or hotel room, and can be used indoors or on the road.

Step Up to a Larger Screen, Instant Photo Gratification

Available in May for about $1,100, Sony is introducing the MV-900SDS all-in-one Mobile DVD Dream system for the true roving film buff. Like the current Mobile DVD Dream system (MV-7101DS), the MV-900SDS model provides a complete in-car entertainment experience in one convenient box. The new model features a larger 9-inch, 16:9 widescreen overhead LCD with built-in stereo speakers and a swivel function for viewing at any angle. And to instantly share any photos or MPEG videos a family may have taken on their road trip, the MV900SDS also has a Memory Stick ® media slot to play back JPEG still images and MPEG1 or MPEG2 videos. Two pairs of supplied, wireless headphones (MDR-IF0140) enable passengers to enjoy a movie or video game without distracting the driver.

The system has a built-in FM modulator and includes a bezel for mounting the overhead monitor, as well as all of the brackets and cables needed for easy installation*.

Both models are compatible with DVD, CD/R/RW, Video CD and MP3 formats, and have a kid-friendly disc loading system so even tiny hands can get the movie rolling.

Editor's Note: All Sony digital still cameras and camcorders with Memory Stick media capabilities, except Models dsc700 and dsc770, store images on a Memory Stick media in the DCF file format, which is required for playback on these DVD systems. If the image file is re-named or manipulated, the DCF file format must be restored before playback is possible. Images captured on all other digital still cameras and camcorders will need to be formatted on a PC to the DCF file format (with third party software not supplied with the television) before they can be viewed.
