SONY SOUNDS OFF WITH NEW HIGH PERFORMANCE XPLOD^® SUBWOOFERS AND AMPLIFIERS

LAS VEGAS (CES, Booth # N110), Jan. 7, 2004 - Sony Electronics intends to deliver optimum sound and design with its 2004 line of Xplod^®subwoofers and amplifiers. The latest mobile audio series, including the high-performing P5 (five-sided) design, gets even better in 2004 and includes a Specialty series of products designed to appeal to even the most discriminating enthusiasts.

"Car audio enthusiasts are all about power, hot looks and a great sound that fits their personal style," said Bill Lee, general manager for mobile electronics at Sony Electronics. "Our new Xplod amps and P5 subwoofers take it a step further by offering competition-level performance for a great value."

Building the Best

Sony has a history of developing some of the top amplifiers in the market. The latest two-channel amp builds on that heritage with an exciting new face. The new XM-2200GTX model offers exceptional performance in a tough black chassis with a P5 red inlay that compliments the subwoofers. It is available now for about $200.

All of Sony's new amplifiers are equipped with ultra-quick MOSFET power supplies and output devices made to handle high volumes of current, while providing optimal frequency response and control. The amplifiers also feature variable hi-pass/lo-pass filters for improved sound quality.

The popular Xplod P5 subwoofers maintain the fierce, five-sided shape that made them a leader in the industry and continue to generate optimal sound with more power, less distortion and louder output for pure sound performance.

Available in 8-, 10-, 12- and 15-inch subwoofers, the 2004 line provides peak power up to 1,400 watts with the XS-L151P5 model 15-inch subwoofer.

Special Offerings

Sony has also developed an Xplod Specialty series of subwoofers and amplifiers that address the needs of extreme enthusiasts.

The 2004 Specialty series of subwoofers has the same hot design as the P5, but takes it a step further by incorporating an aluminum cone. Aluminum is strong, lightweight and dissipates heat. The result is a longer life and improved efficiency without compromising volume and sound quality. The specialty series XS-LD105P5 10-inch aluminum and XS-LD125P5 12-inch aluminum models also feature Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils offering peak power of 1,200 watts and 1,400 watts, respectively.

The 2004 Specialty series of D-class mono amplifiers offer incredible sound without compromising power. The XM-D500X delivers 250W RMS at 4-ohms from inside a distinctive silver "aperture" design. The XM-DS1600P5 amp can drive 500W RMS into a 4-ohm load without taxing the car's charging system. A remote bass control is included with this amplifier.
