SONY'S NEW WIRELESS DVD DREAM SYSTEM SURROUNDS YOU WITH GREAT PERFORMANCE WITHOUT CABLE CLUTTER

All-In-One Home Theater System Now Adds Advanced Wireless Technology To High Performance Video and Audio Features

LAS VEGAS (CES, Booth #N109), Jan. 7, 2004 -Sony Electronics today announced its first wireless DVD Dream ® system (DAV-FR10W), which delivers seamless high-quality audio/video playback with even simpler set-up and configuration flexibility without the hassle of wires that will satisfy everyone from A/V neophytes to the most discriminating home theater enthusiasts.

The Wireless Revolution

Incorporating the latest in cutting-edge wireless technology, the DAV-FR10W system is equipped with Sony's new DIAT (Digital Infrared Audio Transmission System) technology, enabling wireless rear speakers. This sophisticated technology transfers digital audio signals without compression or compromise to sound quality. It ensures pure audio reproduction without deterioration that might be present in other wireless transmission methodologies.

Using small, unobtrusive transmitters/receptors, the DIAT system transmits multi-channel digital audio signals throughout a local area using infrared light as the carrier. It eliminates the need for wires to connect the rear speakers as the signals are transmitted directly from front to rear. Sony's new DIAT system is unique in that it is not vulnerable to interference by other wireless information or data transmitted such as microwaves and cordless phones.

"Just imagine... no more drilling holes through the floor or taping down to hide messy cables," said Joseph Stinziano, director of marketing for Home Products Division at Sony Electronics. "Our new wireless DVD Dream system features the latest in wireless technology that delivers astounding audio/video playback for the consumer who values both high performance and high style."

Advanced Audio and Video Capabilities

The new system incorporates a five-disc DVD/CD/SA-CD changer for space-saving multi-media entertainment with a 5.1 multi-channel surround sound system. It comes with four floor standing speakers, a slim-line center speaker and a new Digital Drive subwoofer with a 6-channel S-Master ™ full digital amplifier and a tuner unit.

Whether enjoying the rich sounds of Super Audio CD playback or admiring the intricate dialogue or lush surround sounds of a DVD movie, consumers will appreciate the system's amazing wireless audio performance. The new model incorporates two S-Master digital amplifiers and two new Dual Digital Power subwoofers to produce powerful bass sound and 800 watts of total system power for an unforgettable surround sound experience. It also offers such enhanced audio features as Dolby ® Digital and Dolby Pro Logic ® II, DTS-ES ® decoder and MP3file playback.

The DAV-FR10W system's new design is sure to be a visual centerpiece inside any home. With minimized cables, home theater aficionados can now arrange their home entertainment systems to directly reflect their aesthetic preferences and d écor needs. Glazed with a metallic frost, the new home theater system will illuminate any room with its slim, elegant speakers and gorgeous brushed aluminum chassis.

In addition, the model's WEGA ® television Direct Simple Macro allows for easy integration with many of Sony's HDTV displays, for a complete WEGA Theatre ™ system experience. The system also offers progressive scan output for crisp, clean video image reproduction from DVDs.

"Home theater lovers now have the option to match high-quality entertainment with home design without the hassle of professional installation," Stinziano added.

The DAV-FR10W will be available this September for about $1,000.
