SONY SIMPLIFIES HOME THEATER WITH 2.1 CHANNEL SURROUND SOUND PLATINUM DVD DREAM SYSTEM

New Line Features Two Wireless Rear Speaker Dream Systems

LAS VEGAS, March 8, 2005 - Continuing to provide innovative solutions for home theater enthusiasts, Sony today announced a new 2.1 channel surround sound DAV-X1 Platinum DVD Dream ® System. The DAV-X1 delivers surround sound with the use of only two front speakers and a powered subwoofer, not the traditional 5.1 channel configuration.

The company also announced two new wireless DVD Dream Systems ®, the DAV-LF10 and DAV-FX100W, which employ Sony's award-winning Digital Infrared Audio Transmission (DIAT) technology.

"Today's home theater is simply not complete without quality surround sound," said Philip Abram, vice president of marketing for Sony Electronics' Home Audio and Home Video Components Division. "The functionality and aesthetic appeal of our DVD Dream System line encourages more and more consumers to open their living rooms to true cinematic surround sound."

Front 2.1 Surround System

Sony's DAV-X1 delivers technically advanced front surround sound with the company's proprietary S-FORCE Front Surround technology. The S-FORCE technology utilizes an all-digital process with no analog conversion creating distinct separation of signals between front, center and rear channels. The system's speakers are specially designed with two unique drivers in each. The drivers are fed by multiple discrete channels creating an "out of box" surround sound experience.

Combined with the Sony's Digital Direct Twin Drive sub woofer, the DAV-X1 is ideal for multi-channel material such as Super-Audio CD and DVD delivering crisp, well defined surround sound that engrosses the listener.

The single-disc DVD/ SA-CD system also features advanced 720p/1080i video upscaling and a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). HDMI is a single-cable, all-digital high resolution video and multi-channel audio interface for linking digital devices together.

The system is built for easy set up. In addition to the HDMI connection, you only needs to hook up the single-wire speaker connection and the power cord. Other optional inputs and outputs include the system features coaxial and optical digital input and component output, two composite A/V inputs and single composite and S-Video outputs.

The Platinum DVD Dream System DAV-X1 will be available this summer for about $1,000.

New 5.1 Channel DIAT Wireless Dream Systems

Building on Sony's first wireless DVD Dream Systems with DIAT technology, the new DAV-LF10, delivers high quality multi-channel surround sound in a stunning and functional industrial design. The floating glass main unit houses the system's single-disc DVD/SA-CD/CD player and is styled after Sony's floating glass plasma and LCD television design. The system's thin, brushed-aluminum front speakers are height adjustable and wall-mountable for flexible installation.

The rear brushed aluminum speakers employ Sony's DIAT wireless technology which allows consumers to finally realize the full power of 5.1 channel surround sound without running wires from the front of the room to the rear. The advanced DIAT technology transfers digital audio signals without compression or compromise to sound quality. It ensures pure audio reproduction without deterioration that might be present in other wireless transmission methodologies.

DIAT's unique build insures that the system is not vulnerable to interference by other wireless information or data transmitted from common hold-hold items such as microwaves and cordless phones.

The system also features a unique touch-panel remote control, Sony's S-Master digital amplifier, Precision Cinema Progressive ™ circuitry, color coded and changeable speaker wires for easy set up, and A/V Sync.

The DAV-LF10 Platinum DVD Dream System will be available this spring for about $1,500.

Also new to Sony's Wireless DVD Dream line is the 1,000 watt DAV-FX100W five-disc slot loading DVD/SA-CD home theater system. Featuring DIAT wireless technology for the rear floor-standing speakers and HDMI with 720p/1080i up scaling, the system is another high quality solution for a stylish home theater installation. With a total system power of 1,000 watts, the DAV-FX100W features Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive technology to deliver high quality video and the S-Master digital amplifier and Digital Direct Twin Drive sub woofer for outstanding sound reproduction.

The DAV-FX100W DVD Dream System will be available this summer for about $900.

DIVERSE DVD DREAM SOLUTIONS

Extending the DVD Dream quality to all levels of performance, Sony also introduced new wired systems including:

DAV-FX80 - With HDMI with 720p/1080i up scaling, the five-disc, slot loading DVD/SA-CD 5.1 surround sound system brings 1,000 watts of total power. The system features the S-Master Digital Amplifier, coaxial and optical digital inputs for digital cable/satellite connectivity, and Sony's Digital Direct Twin Drive sub woofer. The DAV-FX80 will be available this summer of about $700.

DAV-FX10 - The five-disc, slot-loading DVD/SA-CD 5.1 surround sound system delivers 1,000 total watts of power and includes Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive circuitry, S-Master Digital Amplifier, Digital Direct Twin Drive sub woofer, coaxial and optical digital inputs for digital cable/satellite connectivity, A/V Sync and color coded speaker connection for easy system set-up. The DAV-FX10 will be available this spring for about $500.
