SONY'S NEW PORTABLE DVD PLAYER: BORN TO RUN

SAN FRANCISCO (Home Entertainment Show), June 5, 2003 - Whether getting around on business or road tripping with friends and family, travelers can now enjoy cinematic DVD-Video entertainment with Sony's new portable DVD player, introduced today.

Combining Sony's signature style and performance, the DVP-FX700 portable DVD player is an elegant entertainment system offering hours of on-the-go DVD enjoyment. Both business and pleasure travelers, parents and children will appreciate the quality playback of their favorite movies on the unit's 7-inch, 16:9 aspect ratio, TFT LCD screen. The unit is also equipped with an extended-life Lithium Ion battery to allow travelers to enjoy their favorite films without interruption.

"As the portable DVD market continues to expand, we are bringing our market-leading home DVD technology to consumers who travel and want the best when they are on the road," said Joseph Stinziano, director of marketing for Sony Electronics' Home Entertainment Products Division. "With the new DVP-FX700, we are providing consumers with eye-catching design along with solid performance that brings the Sony DVD experience from their living room to wherever they travel."

Elegant Playback and Design

The unit's 7-inch widescreen display offers superb picture quality and brilliant colors. To ensure hours of DVD entertainment, the DVP-FX700 portable player is powered by a Lithium Ion battery that provides up to three hours of viewing time without recharging.

Sony has designed the unit to appeal to even the most stylish travelers. In addition to the widescreen TFT LCD, the unit's brushed aluminum design will turn heads on the road and in the air.

Convenience and Flexibility Ideal For Travelers

The new model measures a mere 7.4 inches in length and 5.9 inches wide and 1 inch thick (without battery), especially convenient for all travelers crammed in their airplane seats. Consumers can use the convenient headphone jack with volume control or the built-in tuner stereo speakers with virtual surround to optimize the viewing experience. Parents with kids in the back seat, or in airport terminals, will also enjoy the unit's remote control, enabling quick access to the device from just a few feet away. The unit is also equipped with one S-Video output and additional A/V jacks for added versatility.

The DVP-FX700 is well suited for playback of today's most popular audio and video formats including CD-R/RW, MP3, JPEG, DVD-RW/-R and DVD+RW.

The DVP-FX700 weighs less than 2.5 lbs. with battery, and will be available in September for about $600.
