SONY UNVEILS THREE DVD-INTEGRATED HOME THEATER SYSTEMS
Also Strengthens DVD Line with New Portable and Stand-Alone Players

LAS VEGAS, Mar. 2, 2009 – Sony today introduced three powerful home theater systems designed to enhance the high-definition home theater experience.

With 1,000 watts maximum power each and integrated five disc DVD/CD changers, the DAV-HDX587WC, DAV-HDX589W and DAV-HDX285 home theater systems offer excellent performance and quality with simplified set-up.

Hassle-Free HD

Representing the most advanced DVD-integrated home theater solutions Sony has to offer are the DAV-HDX589W and DAV-HDX587WC models.

The 5.1 channel systems feature a sleek new design and an included “Easy Set-up” disc that provides step-by-step instructions on how to set-up the main unit, wire speaker cables and calibrate all system speakers.

Both come equipped with an iPod® cradle, enabling music and video to be played from a connected device through the home theater via a Digital Media Port. (Compatible DMP accessories are required and are sold separately.)  Additionally, Sony’s new DMPort Booster technology enhances the sound quality of all audio and video passing through the cradle accessory.

To complete the listening experience, each high end system utilizes Sony’s S-AIR™ technology, which allows wireless audio to be transmitted easily and effectively – up to 164 feet (signal and sound quality may vary). The DAV-HDX589W system includes S-AIR wireless rear speakers (model WAHT-SA10), and the DAV-HDX587WC features an included S-AIR multi-room listening station (model AIR-SA10). With the purchase of additional S-AIR speaker systems, audio from each home theater can be further expanded in up to 10 rooms of the home.

Further, the DAV-HDX589W and DAV-HDX587WC systems can upscale DVDs to near high-definition quality via an HDMI™ cable when connected to an HDTV set.  Both models also feature Digital Cinema Auto Calibration, Portable Audio Enhancer and Dialogue Enhancer, ensuring the optimal surround sound experience.  The two home theater systems will be available later this month for about $430.

The AIR-SA10 and WAHT-SA10 S-AIR speaker systems are currently available for about $120 and $150, respectively.

Affordable Solutions

Rounding out the line is the DAV-HDX285 system.  Similar to both the DAV-HDX589W and DAV-HDX587WC, this model features a sleek new design and comes with an “Easy Set-up” disc.  When connected to a compatible HDTV, the model also upscales DVD videos to near HD through an HDMI connection.

The 5.1 channel DAV-HDX285 system features an iPod cradle, Digital Media Port and DMPort Booster.  The movie/music mode automatically detects what is being listened to and optimizes audio accordingly.  The home theater is also S-AIR ready and can stream audio to additional rooms or add wireless rear speakers capability with the purchase of additional S-AIR speaker devices. The DAV-HDX285 system will be available later this month for about $300.

DVD On the Run

For those looking to enjoy movies on the go, Sony also introduced two portable DVD players, the DVP-FX730 and DVP-FX930.

The DVP-FX730 features a 7-inch (diag.) widescreen display, five hours of battery life and a unique textured design to minimize fingerprints.  The DVP-FX930, available in five stylish colors, upgrades to a 9-inch, high resolution LCD swivel screen (up to 180 degrees) and six hours of battery life.

The DVP-FX730 and DVP-FX930 portable DVD players will be available this month for about $130 and $190, respectively.

Sony also announced the DVP-NS710H stand-alone DVD player, which will be available this month for about $70.  It offers automatic DVD upscaling via HDMI to near HD quality when connected to a capable HDTV set.

The new home theatre systems and DVD players will be offered online through sonystyle.com, at Sony Style stores nationwide and at authorized dealers across the country.
