NEW SONY MINI DV TAPE CAMCORDERS SUIT THE NEEDS OF FAMILY VIDEOGRAPHERS

LAS VEGAS (CES Booth 14200), Jan. 6, 2008 – Sony is introducing two mini DV Handycam® models with feature sets that provide great value for the investment.

The new DCR-HC62 camcorder integrates a 25x optical Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® zoom lens and a 1-megapixel CCD imager provides excellent video, as well as 1-megapixel digital still photos. For easy framing and viewing of footage, the model is equipped with a 2.7-inch wide (16:9) LCD touch panel screen. It has a Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media for easy management of photos, as well as a USB port for transferring video to a compatible PC and other devices.

Meanwhile, the DCR-HC52 model packs in a powerful 40x optical Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar® zoom lens to easily zoom onto distant subjects with minimal loss of picture quality. It has a 680K-pixel CCD imager and a 2.5-inch LCD touch panel screen.

“These camcorders are a perfect for families who are either looking to buy their first camcorder or are currently using a mini DV camcorder and enjoy video editing with tape,” said Kelly Davis, director of camcorder marketing at Sony Electronics.

Both models include a helpful, on-screen usage guide that explains the menu functions, Super SteadyShot® image stabilization for smoother video, and color viewfinders.

The addition of the HC62 and HC52 models brings Sony’s standard-definition mini DV line in 2008 up to three models, including the prosumer DCR-VX2100 camcorder.

The new DCR-HC62 and DCR-HC52 models will be available at retail in February for about $300 and $250, respectively. Both can be purchased with a full array of accessories online at sonystyle.com, at Sony Style® retail stores (sonystyle.com/retail), at authorized dealers nationwide, and at military base exchanges. Pre-orders begin on Jan. 7 at www.sonystyle.com.
