SONY'S NEW FLAT-PANEL DISPLAYS FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY, STING LIKE A BEE
Floating Design and Phenomenal Performance Come in a Value Package
PARK RIDGE, N.J., Feb. 24, 2003 - Bringing together a high-performance panel with a stunning picture-frame design, Sony's latest line of flat-panel computer displays are ideal for consumers looking to step-up to a flat-panel LCD (liquid crystal display) for the first time or for a new size or style.
The new 15-inch SDM-HS53 (15.0-inch viewable image size), 17-inch SDM-HS73 (17.0-inch viewable image size) and 19-inch SDM-HS93 (19.1-inch viewable image size) models are all designed to maximize the users' multi-media experience. Each HS model includes superb viewing angles, high brightness and contrast ratio. These features intensify the display experience for watching videos, playing games, viewing digital images or browsing the web.
Available next month, the HS53 and HS73 displays will be priced at about $330 and $550, respectively. The HS93 will follow in April and is expected to sell for about $850.
"First-time buyers don't have to settle for a bland, boxy design when choosing an LCD," said Stan Glasgow, vice president of display marketing for Sony Electronics. "The HS models offer a stunning design."
Available in either high-gloss metallic gray or pearl white to match multiple PC designs, the new models look good in any room -- whether the display is on or off. The HS displays appear to float in the air due to a softly curved metallic base that lifts the panel from the desktop. Each model is both Macintosh ® - and PC-compatible.
The displays' efficient cable connection system and internal power supply will clear up much-needed space on any desktop with its free-floating design. Each model also tilts to several different positions up to 20 degrees and have the ability to swivel up to 45 degrees, allowing users to view images and movies, browse the web or play games, while sharing the screen with friends or family.
Typical LCDs consume 60 to 80 percent less energy compared to similarly-sized standard cathode ray tube monitors. All of the new HS models include an energy saving button on the front of the display to adjust the brightness and reduce consumption. This helps set the display for optimum viewing in rooms with changing ambient lighting conditions.
Sony also includes an easy, one-click set-up that automatically adjusts the display for optimal resolution with any PC.
