SONY EXPANDS ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS WITH SPRING LINE OF DESKTOP PCs

VAIO PCs Continue to Make DVD Burning Easier With Industry's First Dual RW Drive

LAS VEGAS (CES BOOTH #N109), Jan. 8, 2003 - Creating DVDs continues to get easier with Sony's new spring desktop PC line-up with dual RW drives, including the industry's first desktop CD/DVD combination drive available to support both the DVD+RW and -RW formats. Sony also introduced the VAIO ® PCV-RS100 desktop that incorporates DVD burning for under $800.

The new PCV-RZ26G, PCV-RZ24G and PCV-RX22G desktop models all feature four popular DVD recording formats for broad playback compatibility and Sony's original Click to DVD TM software - a one-click DVD burning application.

"Users can easily shift home movies onto DVD discs, edit and then play back in nearly all DVD-video players and DVD-ROM drives," said Mark Hanson, vice president and general manager for the VAIO PC business at Sony Electronics. "With Click to DVD software and the VAIO's universal format DVD burner, you can have any flavor DVD you like."

Combining Elegance with Power and Design

Three new models in the VAIO Digital StudioTM RZ series have Intel ® Pentium ® 4 processors and hard drives ranging from 80 GB to 160 GB that can house video, music, images and personal content. Each model also features a full compliment of original Sony software, including Giga Pocket TM Personal Video Recorder software, Click to DVD TM software and VAIO Media Network file sharing software, enabling video, photos and music content to be shared through a home network.

The PCV-RZ26G model is priced at about $2,300 and comes with an Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz processor. The PCV-RZ24G model costs about $1,700 and the PCV-RZ22G unit is expected to sell for about $1,450.

In addition to these models, the new PCV-RS100 unit is a powerful, yet practical, entry into the world of DVD burning. Priced at about $800, this model includes an Intel Pentium 4 processor, a rewritable DVD drive and a CD-ROM drive. The RS100 PC is equipped with a 60GB hard drive and 256 MB of DDR RAM. It has a modern, along with a stylistic design that illuminates the VAIO logo with incandescent blue when powered on.

Across the Board Functionality

All of the new VAIO desktops have six USB 2.0 ports and two i.LINK ® (IEEE-1394) digital interface ports to make connecting to compatible camcorders, music players, digital cameras and handheld computers easy.
