SONY UNVEILS NEW SECURITY CAMERA DESIGNED FOR STANDARD SURVEILLANCE NEEDS

New SCC-Dc314 Color Video Camera Offers High Performance

In Low Light Conditions

PARK RIDGE, N.J., June 12, 2001 - Sony Electronics today introduced the SSC-DC314 Super HAD ™ CCD high-resolution color video camera, which is now available to meet the surveillance industry's need for high-quality and cost-efficient security products.

"This color video camera is a full-featured, reliable security camera that provides highly accurate pictures with a excellent signal-to-noise ratio," said Ken LaMarca, director of security products for Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company. "It's is the latest weapon in our security arsenal, specifically designed for standard surveillance needs at an entry-level price."

At a suggested list price of $290, the SSC-DC314 video camera's numerous features and technologies offer high-performance for a wide range of demanding surveillance applications.

Key features include:

  • Sony Super HAD CCD technology, which provides high resolution and sensitivity, allowing the camera to reproduce clear, identifiable pictures even in low light conditions;

  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology, which offers a high level of stability and reliability that analog signal processing cannot achieve; and

  • Lighting features that include Backlight Compensation (BLC), Aperture Control, Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW) and Turbo AGC for an additional 6dB of gain.

Businesses need reliable security tools in varying light conditions. The light-sensitive Super HAD CCD technology features a microlens over each pixel of the CCD, resulting in greater convergence of light into the photo-sensitive layer of the CCD. As a result, this technology requires only a very low level of light to garner clear images.

The SSC-DC314 video camera also features Backlight Compensation (BLC), which automatically compensates for strong backlit conditions that can cast shadows on the subjects of the picture. By using the BLC mode, the subject can become more

visible - and therefore identifiable - should a security breach occur.

This camera features an Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW) and an Aperture Sharp mode. The wide-range ATW function automatically adjusts the white balance based on lighting conditions, providing pictures with accurate color reproduction. The Aperture Sharp mode makes subject outlines more defined, resulting in better contrast ratios.

The SSC-DC314 video camera comes equipped with an advanced Turbo AGC function that boosts the camera's electronic gain for use in low-light conditions. The CCD ™ Iris shutter mode allows the use of a manual lens instead of an automatic lens. By varying the electronic shutter speed of the CCD, the camera's electronic iris compensates for low or high illumination levels by changing the exposure time of the photo sensors.
