BEXEL OFFERS SONY'S NEW 4:4:4 HIGH-DEFINITION RECORDING SYSTEM
HDCAM SR Studio Recorders Open New Opportunities for Producers of Major Motion Pictures, Independent Productions and Documentaries
PARK RIDGE, N.J., June 30, 2003 - Burbank, Calif.-based Bexel, a leading provider of video production equipment to the broadcast and entertainment industry, has purchased two Sony SRW-5000 studio recorders in an effort to expand its reach among producers of major motion pictures, independent production and documentaries. The recorders are part of the new family of HDCAM SR digital motion picture production tools which, along with Sony's new HDCAM SR series digital video cassettes, offer 4:4:4 RGB high-definition (HD) recording without pre-filtering or sub-sampling.
"Sony's new format offers the highest-caliber acquisition for principle photography for motion picture production, opening up a world of possibilities for digital cinematographers," said Tom Dickinson, general manager of Bexel.
Larry Thorpe, senior vice president of Content Creation Systems for Sony Electronics' Business Solutions and Systems Company, said Bexel has once again "taken a leadership position in making HDCAM imaging available to innovative content creators.
"With HDCAM SR, Bexel will help clients break significant new ground in digital motion picture production," Thorpe said. "4:4:4 capture at 24P will facilitate the highest quality transfers to motion picture film for theatrical release as well as supporting superb blue/green screen compositing and the creation of contemporary special effects."
Comprehensive Product Line
Sony's SRW-5000 studio recorders and BCT-SR series cassettes are part of the newly introduced HDCAM SR line, the high-end extension to Sony's CineAlta family of digital motion picture capture and production systems.
Both the SRW-5000 and the companion SRW-1 field recorder using BCT-SR cassettes with next generation metal tape technology capture the full detail of the Common Image Format 1920(H) x 1080(V) sampling structure in either the 4:4:4 RGB mode or the 4:2:2 component set without pre-filtering or sub-sampling. The flexibility of the SRW-5000 studio VTR within the CineAlta family is exemplified by its ability to playback standard HDCAM (at all specified picture capture rates), and its unparalleled capability in the digital audio domain where it can record up to twelve channels of separately editable 24-Bit audio.
The integration of legacy library material into the HD format is supported by the optional ability to playback Digital Betacam tapes and internally up-convert these to the 1080i HD format. The new HDC-F950 HD camera captures a full 1920(H) x 1080(V) sampled image and outputs uncompressed digital HD 4:4:4 RGB.
Enhanced exposure latitude, a new under-cranking feature, a new high-resolution color viewfinder, and a new gamma editor all combine in a camera system intended to specifically respond to the valuable recommendations of many cinematographers.
The camera can be separated a significant distance from the recording system via a new 3 Gbps fiber optic link to an optional camera control unit, the CCU-F950 model.
With BCT-SR series digital videocassettes, these form a comprehensive solution for studio and remote digital motion picture production and post-production.
