PARK RIDGE, N.J., May 19, 2006 – Sony has updated its Device Monitor multi-protocol system with the release of version 6.0, which now enables networked system monitoring capabilities for web, e-mail and database applications.
Sony’s Device Monitor provides continuous status updates on both individual devices and the network to which they are attached, as well as environmental conditions that may affect device functionality such as temperature, humidity and power fluctuations.
In addition to open standards like SNMP, HTTP and XML that are presently adopted for use in new devices, Device Monitor is also compatible with Sony’s ISR, VDCP, PJCP and plasma displays as well as certain legacy devices from other manufacturers.
“Customers now have the ability to quickly understand a network’s ‘pulse points’ and their role in causing disruptions,” said Erwin Ishmael, vice president of Sony Electronics’ Professional Services Group. “This new version of Device Monitor offers customers a holistic view of their systems.”
Device Monitor 6.0 is supported on numerous platforms including Windows® 2000 and XP as well as such UNIX® variants as Solaris® and Linux.® The technology works within an existing infrastructure to keep other systems up-to-date on current status. Device Monitor application servers can also share a centralized database in large-scale installations or across multiple locations.
Version 6.0 includes full monitoring capability for Sony’s SXRD digital projector systems, HDCAM SR SRW-5000 VTRs, the XDCAM™ line of Professional Disc™ products and Flexicart systems.
