SONY EXPANDS LINE OF LUMA LCD PROFESSIONAL MONITORS WITH NEW 17- AND 42-INCH DISPLAYS

PARK RIDGE, Feb. 27, 2008 – Sony’s growing family of LUMA® professional LCD models now includes two new models, a 17- and a 42-inch display (viewable areas measured diagonally). The new monitors offer the same uniform design, feature and functionality of many of Sony’s previous LUMA series, with several new features.

The 42-inch version, model LMD-4250W, will also offer single/quad/multi-viewing capability. It has a full HD resolution of 1920 by 1080, a 16:9 aspect ratio, and a high contrast ratio.

The 17-inch version, model LMD-1750W, is ideal for rack-mount, desktop and portable applications. It has a resolution of 1280 by 768 (WXGA).

“Since it was first introduced, the LUMA line-up has continually evolved to meet the video production needs of our users,” said John Kaloukian, director of Sony Electronics’ professional display group. “High-quality video monitors are just as important in the field as in a high-end studio or post house, whether users are reviewing footage on-the-fly, previewing content for clients or editing video, and the LUMA series has a model to fit every need.”

The new monitors can accept multiple sources, including both video and PC (DVI-D and HD15). These models support composite video, Y/C, RGB, component as standard and SDI (D1/HD) as options. In addition to HD15, automatic detection of DVI sources is available as a standard feature.

They also feature Sony’s ChromaTru™ color processing. This technology compensates for variations in LCD color levels commonly caused by differences in chromaticity coordinates, color temperature and gamma curves.

ChromaTru processing is based on color space conversion and white balance adjustment. Color space conversion adjusts chromaticity coordinates, color temperatures and gamma curves. White balance adjustment delivers broadcast-quality gradation while maintaining standardized gamma characteristics. The technology allows each model in this series to closely color-match not only other LUMA monitors but also the SMPTE-C, EBU or ITU-BT709 color standards traditionally used in CRT models.

In addition to the new displays, Sony is also highlighting its full line of LUMA professional LCD monitors.

Suggested list pricing and planned availability for the new displays are as follows:

  • LMD-4250W, available now, $7,800
  • LMD-4250WHD (with HD-SDI board), available now, $9,100
  • LMD-1750W, available in April, pricing to be announced
  • LMD-1750WHD, available in April, pricing to be announced
