FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 14, 2006 – The organizers behind this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival selected Sony’s Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD™) 4K projector for one of its main screening venues. Event organizers said they wanted a projection technology that would present festival entries in the highest resolution possible, and the SXRD technology’s 4096 by 2160 pixel display fit the bill perfectly.
“We're thrilled with this amazing new projector,” said Gregory von Hausch, president and chief executive of the 21-year-old film festival. “This technology helped put our festival on the cutting edge of technology and enhanced the viewing experience for the attendees.”
The Sony SXRD projection technology added an extra element of excitement to each presentation this year, “telling the stories more vividly than traditional film projection or other commercially available digital technology,” von Hausch said,
The SXRD projector was installed in the Parker Playhouse through the festival, which ends Nov. 14. At a screening of one of this year’s festival hits, “Pittsburgh,” starring Jeff Goldblum, von Hausch said audiences commented on the projector’s resolution and clarity.
The SXRD projector’s 4K resolution is derived from its 4096 by 2160 pixel matrix, or approximately 8.8 million pixels, allowing it to deliver four times the resolution of HDTV systems.
