Michael T. Williams is executive vice president and general counsel for Sony Electronics where he is responsible for the company's legal, trade affairs, security and external affairs groups. Williams also serves as chairman of the companys ethics and business conduct committee and privacy council, charged with implementing Sony Corporations global basic principles on personal information management.
As Sony Corporation's outside counsel for more than two decades, Williams represented the company in a variety of litigation and business transactions, most notably working on the successful defense in the Go Video dual deck VCR litigation, as well as successfully defending Sony Electronics in many class action suits.
Williams is a member of the American Bar Association; Association of Corporate Counsel; State Bar of California; Association of Business Trial Lawyers; San Diego County Bar Association; Antitrust Section and Business Law Section of the American Bar Association; Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of California; United States District Courts in the State of California; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth, Eighth, Ninth and Eleventh Circuits.
His professional appointments include chairman and member of Executive Committee of Provisional and Post-Judgment Remedies Section (Los Angeles County Bar Association), chairman, city of Palos Verdes Estates Planning Commission and director of the Palos Verdes Home Association.
Williams received a cum laude Juris doctorate from the San Diego School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ithaca College, graduating magna cum laude.
