Marjorie Thomas is the corporate controller and senior vice president of Sony Electronics Inc. She was appointed to the position in August 2006.
As controller, Thomas oversees SEL’s financial processing and reporting; technical accounting, which combines accounting, corporate governance and compliance, including tax law, governmental compliance; and Sarbanes-Oxley, which regulates corporate financial records and provides penalties for their abuse. Her principle duties include the establishment and maintenance of internal business controls, including the segregation of duties such as who signs contracts and reports; the preparation and interpretation of financial reports; safeguarding the company’s assets; and ensuring adherence to financial policy.
She is also a member of the executive committee, which consists of SEL’s top management and oversees the company’s strategic direction.
Thomas is a twenty-year veteran of Hewlett Packard, where she held a variety of finance and accounting positions. Most recently, she was vice president of finance, HP Service Global Delivery. Before joining HP, Marjorie, who is a certified public account, worked for an international accounting firm.
In addition to her strong financial and managerial expertise, Thomas has worked on major merger activities and new business start-ups. Her international experience includes serving as a board member for HP’s Globalsoft – a public company headquartered in Bangalore, India.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Boise State University.
