Edgar Tu is president of Sony Electronics' Television Engineering of America. In this role, he leads the design and development for all Sony televisions sold in the North and South American markets. He also oversees electrical, mechanical and software engineering, design support and future television technologies research and development.
Tu is also the deputy president for Consumer of America, where he leads a group of employees in forming Sony's overall network strategy for home and mobile products. In this role he also leads a business development group that oversees new business incubation and research and development, as well as directing efforts related to consumer market research.
Tu contributed to developing the PlayStation0174; 2, PlayStation 2 Online Network, and CELL processor and computer. In 2004 Tu received Sony's Most Valuable Professional award for developing key technologies including the "Xross Media Bar" user interface, installed on electronic devices including PlayStation X, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 game consoles, video recorders, Blu-ray Disc0153; players and recorders, televisions and mobile phones.
Most recently Tu contributed to the BRAVIA0174; internet video service, which delivers video service to BRAVIA TVs, blu-ray players, home theater and audio products.
Prior to joining Sony, Tu was a principle founder of several startup companies including VOIP technology voicemail service eVoice, which AOL later acquired. Tu holds many technology patents and has extensive experience in the development of video games for Sega, PC, 3DO and Macintosh.
Tu earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science at the University of California, Berkeley.
