Ed Cotter is the senior vice president, human resources and facilities, for Sony Electronics.
In his role, Cotter leads a steering commitee focused on unifying Sony Electronics customer touch points, including direct channels including sonystyle.com, and Sony Style stores and outlets, as well as indirect channels through the company's thousands of retail partners. The goal is to provide customers with a consistent experience and information.
Cotter joined Sony in January 2000 and until March 2007 was senior vice president of Human Resources. His responsibilities included development of Sony Electronics overall human resources strategy in the areas of organizational culture, talent management/acquisition, rewards and recognition and diversity.
Prior to joining Sony, Cotter was vice president, Human Resources, at Compaq Computer Corporation where he was an active member of the cross-functional team supporting what was, at the time, the largest merger in the computer industry, integrating Compaq, Digital Equipment Corporation and Tandem Computer. Cotter held a variety of human resources positions at Digital Equipment Corporation from 1977 to 1998.
Cotter is an active member of the Center for Advanced Human Resources Studies at Cornell and the Client Advisory Board for Hewitt Associates. Cotter is a frequent speaker at human resources-related conferences and forums. Through his leadership in advanced human resources practices at Sony Electronics, Sony has been recognized in a number of publications for its groundbreaking work in human resources outsourcing strategy.
Cotter holds an MBA from the Whittemore School of Business and Economics and a bachelors degree from Boston College.
