Hideyuki Furumi heads Sony Electronics’ VAIO of America as president and Sony’s Information Technology Products Division (ITPD) as senior vice president. In this dual role he is responsible for the entire North American PC operation including engineering, marketing and production. In his ITPD role, Furumi is also responsible for overseeing the sales and marketing of the Sony Reader, LocationFree, Mylo and branded Disc Storage products.
Furumi joined Sony in 1986. He started in a sales position and then moved on to build his career in various marketing management roles in South East Asia including assignments in Thailand and Singapore.

In 1996 Furumi was appointed group marketing manager of Sony TV Europe in the United Kingdom. In this role, he guided regional sales companies and contributed to a then record sales of 3.5 million TV units.

After more than 10 years in overseas assignments, he assumed the role of business planning manager of the corporate marketing division of Sony Corporation in 1999. In this role, he contributed to the design and re-organization of Sony’s international sales and marketing management operations. He also helped to create the Global Marketing Office a marketing staff that supports the COO of Sony Corporation.
Furumi joined Sony Electronics in 2001. Since that time he has been recognized for the dramatic strides he has made to Sony’s PC business in the U.S. He has been credited with strengthening U.S. operations, developing new revenue streams and growing the VAIO business significantly in the hyper competitive PC industry.

Furumi holds a Bachelor of Science in economics from Keio Gijyuku University in Japan.
